KWR Talks

8 april 2021 / 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

On the 8th of April we organize ‘KWR Talks’ during your lunch break (12-1pm). KWR is a water research institute where also  young professionals work. We invited four of them to share their experiences in the field. An introduction will be given of the event as well as the young professionals, which afterwards we will divide ourselves in breakout rooms to discuss a case.

TaviProfile photo of Tavishi Guleriash Guleria studied Environmental Engineering (water and wastewater treatment) from TU Delft. Currently, she is a scientific researcher at KWR working primarily on the Horizon2020 project – ULTIMATE, where her research focuses on developing smart solutions to reuse wastewater and nutrients in the horticulture industry. Her areas of interest include (waste)water reuse technologies and data-driven resource recovery from wastewater.

Profile photo of Karel van LaarhovenKarel van Laarhoven studied applied physics and fungal microbiology during his PhD and then decided to become a researcher in an entirely different field: drinking water. In KWR’s Water Infrastructure team, he mainly works to support the water utilities in the design and maintenance of the drinking water distribution network with tools like numerical optimization, condition models and inspection techniques.

Profile photo of Siddharth SeshanSiddharth, originally from India, is a scientific researcher in the Water Treatment and Resource Recovery team at KWR Water Research Institute. He is also a PhD candidate at TU Delft. His research focuses on achieving (near) real-time control of wastewater treatment plants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase operational efficiency using Artificial Intelligence (AI) models. Siddharth is also works in projects that involve activities related to the digital transition of the water sector.

Profile photo of Janine de WitJanine de Wit studied in Wageningen Soil Water Atmosphere (Bachelor), followed by the Master Earth and Environment with a focus on hydrology and meteorology. After writing her MSc Thesis in Israel about dripirrigation, she did her internship at KWR about drainage and subirrigation. Nowadays, she’s working in the Ecohydrology team of KWR and a PhD-student at WUR-SLM. She mainly works on projects related to drought, drainage, subirrigation, and a robust fresh water system at the Pleistocene uplands of the Netherlands (in Dutch: Hoge Zandgronden). Modelling, data analysis and fieldwork are her daily tasks!
